Un gesto sbagliato
Michael Klienhous, quarantenne sposato con un figlio, vive da tempo una profonda crisi personale: disprezzato dalla moglie, senza un lavoro e incapace di assecondare le vellità da scrittore, passa le sue giornate nell’inerzia e nella noia. Un mattina, mentre si trova in auto con la famiglia, viene aggredito da un automobilista che per una banale lite di parcheggio quasi non uccide sua moglie. Convinto di risolvere la situazione legalmente, Michael si rivolge alla polizia, ma scopre che l’aggressore è il potente mafioso Dreyfus: disgustato dall’abuso di potere dell’uomo, Michael lo sfida apertamente arrivando a mettere a repentaglio la vita della sua famiglia, ma trovando finalmente un nuovo senso alla sua esistenza.
"È il giorno in cui si ricorda la Shoah. E siamo in Israele. Michael va a prendere moglie e figlio, lei sale in macchina, lascia aperta un momento la portiera, uno su un macchinone vuole passare, lei gli fa un gestaccio, quello parte in quarta e la portiera se la porta via. Michael-Davide contro un Golia sconosciuto. Quando va alla polizia, Michael capisce subito che sarebbe meglio lasciar perdere. Quello ha rapporti in alto, è Dreyfus, un vero gangster. Viene il giorno in cui si commemorano i caduti in guerra. E arrivano inseguimenti, fughe, pestaggi: come una specie di guerra privata, mentre sullo sfondo continua l’altra guerra, quella di sempre. Nel giorno in cui si festeggia l’Indipendenza, i fuochi artificiali si accompagnano ad altri fuochi". (Bruno Fornara)
Foul Gesture
Michael Klienhous, a married man in his forties with a child, is suffering a deep personal crisis since a long time: disregarded by his wife, unemployed and unable to second his ambition to be a writer, he spends his days in apathy and boredom. One day, while into his car with his family, he is mugged by a man who almost kills his wife in a trivial parking fight. Willing to settle the matter lawfully, Michael goes to the police but the mugger turns out to be the powerful Dreyfus, a mafia boss. Michael is disgusted by Dreyfus’s abuse of power so he openly faces him, risking the life of his own family, but finally he can give new meaning to his life.
"It’s the day in remembrance of the Shoah. We’re in Israel. Michael goes to pick up his wife and son, she gets in the car, leaving the car door ajar for a moment. A man in a big car wants to get by, she makes a rude gesture at him, he revs his motor and smashes their car door off. Michael-David has encountered an unknown Goliath. When he goes to the police, Michael realizes right away that it would be better to just forget about it. The man has connections on high, his name is Dreyfus and he’s a real gangster. It’s the day commemorating the people who have died in battle. And there are chases, escapes, beatings. It’s a sort of private war, while the other war, the usual war, continues in the background. Tzahi Grad
Tzahi Grad (Gerusalemme, 1962), noto nel suo paese soprattutto come attore, fin dai primi anni Novanta ha lavorato in diverse produzioni per il teatro, la televisione e il cinema, tra cui, recentemente, per Meduse (Meduzot, 2007) di Shira Geffen e Etgar Keret. Come sceneggiatore ha esordito nel 1997 con il documentario Ben Gurion e come regista nel 2001 con Girafot, che ha vinto il premio per la miglior sceneggiatura al Festival di Gerusalemme e il primo premio al Scottsdale International Film Festival. Con Tnu’a Meguna ha poi ricevuto il primo premio della sezione israeliana al Festival di Haifa e ha partecipato al Festival di San Sebastian.
Tzahi Grad (Jerusalem, 1962), very well known in his country as an actor, since the beginning of the 90s has appeared in dozens of plays, television dramas and films, such as, more recently, in Jellyfish (Meduzot, 2007) by Shira Geffen and Etgar Keret. In 1997 he debuted as a screenwriter with the documentary Ben Gurion and in 2001 as a director with Girafot, winner of the Script Award at the Jerusalem Festival and First Prize at the Scottsdale International Film Festival. Tnu’a Meguna won First Prize at the Israeli film competition at Haifa Festival and then partecipated at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
